This tutorial describes how to effectively watermark a brilliant color photo (such as "hot magenta" or "electric blue").

Well, mostly hidden. They are visible at greater magnifications, and with the difference overlay in PS. The watermarks are colored to match the background, but in a lighter tone. So, in short, no one will really see most of the watermarks. Though it is incredibly easy for someone who knows that the watermarks are there to pull them up, but never to delete them. Deleting the watermarks is impossible.

I see. Mine are so noticeable.... I figure maybe that will scare people off? I also worry...even with watermarks.... people can try to crop around them if they see them.... so this is good that they can't.

Yeah, the watermarks are imbeded in the image and each watermarked pixel has something like a 1:16,777,216 that they will remove the watermark. For my specific watermark (~mgw), there are over 100 pixels that are altered. Each of those pixels contributes to the ratio, making it even higher. The only time watermarks don't work is when they are over a single shade, then it is a 1:1 chance that the pixels can be corrected. Most other times, it's much higher. (Gradients are especially good at this, it is much harder to fix a good gradient.
